Do you need legal expense insurance built in ??

Been shopping around for contents insurance for an 82 year old living in sheltered accomadation with few expensive pocessions .
Cheapest quote was quite horrendous then a chap from Tesco direct insurance suggested that we drop the legal expense cover from the policy as the policyholder would prob not ever claim on it as she is housebound and not likely to need to sue her neighbours from hell or the council for a dodgy pavement etc and anyhow these days every solicitor normally will take on a case for free if there is a prospect of winning .
THE Quote then dropped by 75% !!! its now under £35 for 20k of pocessions which is enough for this lady who best pocessions are her memories.

So when renewing see if you really need that legal cover as you may too get a mega discount for dropping it !!!:T

It's normally about £20 or so to add on, so if your premium isn't very high anyway, it will seem like a big discount.

If you are paying £300 or so it doesn't seem that much.

When you say the person is in sheltered accomadation do you mean in a nursing home or in flats that have a warden.

If it is either of the above it is very important that the Insurers are fully aware as some Insurers do not like sheltered accomadation

as the policyholder would prob not ever claim on it as she is housebound and not likely to need to sue her neighbours from hell or the council for a dodgy pavement etc

So if a tescos delivery driver slips and sues her, then she has no protection?

It's not jsut about suing other people it's also about being protected if someone sues you.
There have been several cases of delivery drivers suing recently.

Yeah, sorry I think I got a bit confused there.
I am suprised it made so much difference though.
As you say these are normally £20 - £30, although sometimes it's included as a package rather than an optional extra.
