Depends how many others the crew have worked and how much rest they are legally required to take before they can work again. Depends upon the flight schedule too. Plenty of reasons why they can't return immediately.Put them in Travelodges instead of swanky central hotels on stop overs, that may cut a few quid.
Why do they also need to be put up for 2 to 4 days abroad before being sent back home?0 -

Actually, I'm a company director. Please elaborate on the great expense of issuing new shares that would wipe out millions of pounds in wage savings.

I don't think the original comment on issuing shares was related to an approved share scheme. This is a different matter.
This scheme applies only to pilots which are less than 10% of the workforce. The remaining 37,000 employees aren't included.
