Speakers running from PC

Options
Hello,

I am thinking of using my PC as a media centre, rather than having a stereo in the living room.

Basically, I thought I could run a couple of speakers into the kitchen and then a couple more through into the living room.

Is this a good idea / practical?

If so, is it easy to do and any ideas on the best place to get hold of some good but cheap speakers?

Thanks!

Duncan

Wouldn't that be a touch pricey though?

Also, would you want the whole house listening to music at the same time?

Unless you can turn speakers up and down maybe?

No you have diff zones fed from the main server,

and a remote in each room like touchscreen panel on the wall to select tracks etc,

prob looking only about 4k for average house

Not really the amount I was looking to spend, to be honest.

Think I'll go for a couple of stand alone speakers tucked away in the corner and wires sneaked around out of sight.

Thanks anyway, maybe when I've paid my mortgage off early I can start to treat myself to things like that!?!?

Rather than running long speaker cable from your pc (don't know how far you intended) why not run some cat 5 instead and then attach something like

this will provide much better sound quality. No doubt there are other similar cheaper devices available as well.

You try wireless as well if you liked.

This also has the added advantage of not losing sound quality if you were going to try and drive multiple sets of speakers from the one soundcard. (At the expense of a unit in every room)
