Post Office user? recently moved house?

The Post Office provide my home phone, line and broadband.
I moved house on 1st May, the line was disconnected at the old place and connected at the new place and all was good in the world.
I noticed that I didn't receive my April bill but presume I'd get it in May after the move. I went online and no bill had been generated.
It's now June and I still haven't had any bills.
I contacted the Post Office and they just keep telling me that "it's a common fault when someone moves house" and that "a bill will be issued in due course" - they give no indication when this will be, all they say is that they "cannot charge me after 6 months without a bill". They told me that the "amount due will come out by direct debit".
I've budgeted for the bills and the money is sitting in the account but I'm not confident in them anymore so I have cancelled the direct debit.
I don't want to cancel my contract because up to now I have been happy with the service and the charges....
Has anybody else had this problem?

Why did you cancel the direct debit? If you leave each month's money in your account, when they eventually get round to taking it they will, and then everything will go along smoothly. What you have done is screwed everything up. When they now try to take the direct debit they will fail, they will then set the hounds of debt collectors on you and cancel your phone line. So in a few months time you will be posting on here about how the PO are screwing you around, you have been cut off and baliffs are at your door. Why not let nature and PO take it's course. And just think if your bank account is paying you interest about all that money you have made from PO.
No wonder people are posting about the problems they have with utility companies and direct debits.
And how can you say you have been happy with the services and charges when you have just said you are not confident with them and cancelled your direct debit.
You are a financial disaster waiting to happen. Three months and you have lost confidence?0 -
because I thought it might give their system a kick up the @r5e and actually generate a billWhy did you cancel the direct debit?
oh, I thought that they would just send me a paper billthey will then set the hounds of debt collectors on you and cancel your phone line.
I don't think it's going to help me retire early !And just think if your bank account is paying you interest about all that money you have made from PO.
because I was happy with the service up until I moved but have since lost confidence because they cannot send me a billAnd how can you say you have been happy with the services and charges when you have just said you are not confident with them and cancelled your direct debit.
thanks for the kind wordsYou are a financial disaster waiting to happen.

Oh and a few days after I cancelled my direct debit, I received a letter saying that I will now be receiving paper bills - so my theory has worked so far

It will have absolutely no influence whatsoever on your bill being generated.frugallass wrote: »Oh and a few days after I cancelled my direct debit, I received a letter saying that I will now be receiving paper bills - so my theory has worked so far
This is a computer generated letter that gets sent out whenever the details on someone's account have been changed- you can only be billed monthly if you have a DD set up and these bills will be online. You cancelled your DD, therefore you have been changed to quarterly billing and will now receive paper bills. Again, this will have absolutely no influence whatsoever on your bill being generated.0 -

Not long after cancelling the direct debit I received my paper bill and I paid the full amount by cheque straight away
I was not asked to set up another direct debit and have since received another monthly bill (via email) I will pay this by cheque0
