Commuting Fife to Glasgow - advice anyone?

Afternoon, really hoping for some advice please MSE-ers.

We live in Edinburgh at the mo, but I am a Fifer trying to get home! My OH has just bagged a good job in Glasgow with a fantastic company. He is from Glasgow and it would be ideal for him if I would just say, ok, lets go live there. However ...

Does anyone here commute from Fife (Cupar-ish area) or know someone who does? How ok/awful is it?

TIA

What travel means will you/he be using >? Bus, train, Car ?
Glasgow is a 40/50 minute drive from Edinburgh. Kingston bridge is as always at nightmare at peak times, but once you suss out work times etc, tail backs could be avoided. I'm sure it's the x26 or the x24 you would need if you travelled by bus.

Sorry - by car. To the tunnel-ish area. He can start about 7.30-8am, and be away sharp.

Edinburgh bypass is a nightmare in the morning, up until approx 9.30am.
It's easily bypassed though, I did it the other day via Portabello, on to Ferry Road and the road was not to bad.

I'm sure, but I will ask my friend this evening, your journey leaving 6.50am sharp or before, will prevent you being stuck in tailbacks, and any time after 7am, it's built up and dragging.

Can't remember the times for the Forth and Kincardine via Fife, ususally the same scenario, ten minutes difference could make or break your arrival times.

I always headed into Glasgow before 2pm, anything after that and you were stuck for hours.

Have you not been able to settle yourself in Edinburgh ? Or are you just home sick ? Cupar and Glasgow, that's a bit of distance for you both.

We don't have to use the bypass thankfully (we are near barnton junction atm). We can normally do Glasgow in 50 mins from here.

We've been here 9 years but have to move for school this year or next at the latest, so want to get back closer to family and old friends. I'm craving fields, open space and my mum!

personally due to my hatred for the M8 i would use the kincardine bridge route if possible,if he leaves early enough in the morning then he should make good time and miss most traffic,as long as he gets to the M8 at the gas tanks before 7.30 the journey should flow quite well, any time after 8.00 he can forget it. especially when the schools are back.

Thankyou. It would definitely be Cupar - Kinross - Kincardine I would imagine.I used to do St Andrews to Glasgow once or twice a week and that is the way I went. Food for thought anyway.

It can take the best part of an hour and a half to get to Kincardine bridge from Cupar in the mornings, have you considered going by the A9 at Perth, he would get on the dual carraigway sooner and average speed might be higher.

It might be worth doing a couple of practice runs on different routes to see which is best.

Your man will be doing a lot of driving, almost as much time in the car as he will be at work.

Oh no really? What time does Cupar-Kincardine get busy? Where does it get bad?

Thank you so much, the advice is really appreciated.
