Good hotel & flight deals direct with BA

I have spent the last few days pricing up a New York hotel package for 3 nights with flights for January 2010. I tried various websites e.g. Opodo, Expedia, Ebookers and also rang Trailfinders etc but was struggling to get anything under about £900-£950 in a 3 star hotel. Out of interest I checked cost of buying a package through BA website and it came out at £818 for two people with great time flights and a 4 star Marriott Hotel in a central Manhattan. I rang a couple of agents to see if they could match this and the closest anyone could come for the same hotel was £990 (Trailfinders), and even they advised to just book it directly at such a good price! It may just have been luck in terms of the dates I was looking at, but I would never have thought buying a package direct with BA would be cheaper, but it was considerably so in this case. Thanks
