Sony CDX-L480X no MW reception

Just got a second hand car with this Sony (CDX-L480X) CD/Radio in it. FM reception is fine but no MW. I know this is old hat and DAB should be my port of call but i like to listen to the sport when driving around and can't at present. Anybody got any ideas why there's no MW reception?

From experience Sony units have fairly bad AM reception so a very good aerial is needed. What car is it in ? Some have amplified aerial systems which do not function properly with aftermarket units but may work OK on FM.0
