Insuring a car that doesn't belong to me

Does anyone know if it's possible to insure a car that does not belong to me? I am awaiting a new car delivery in September and want to borrow my friend's car until then, but obviously the car will not be in my name. Any thoughts?

You should probably be the registered keeper of it between now and then - for an speeding tickets or parking fines. How much is the car worth? If an old banger this is an option, if worth a bit then draw up an agreement saying you are borrowing the car and it will be registered in your name. I have to say i wouldn't borrow a car i couldn't afford to replace.0

I would start with trying to be put on your friends policy, but you MUST declare you are the named driver for that period.
This might incurr two sets or policy amendment fee, but that's where I'd start.0 -

Did you mean main driver for that period?:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0 -
Yes thanks shelley, that's exactly what I meant.
It's important that the risks are clearly apparent to the insurer, so I would guess that you are a named (additional) driver on your friends policy, but the MAIN driver must be amended for the period (as well as the location the car is stored at and the details of where it's stored e.g. garage/drive).
Sometimes adding on additional drivers doesn't cost very much as the insurer may judge that the risk has not altered by someone else driving the car, but of course it will depend on claims, convictions, postcode, age, storage, gender etc.
I have added riders onto my bike policy before at zero cost.0
