Post Office Credit Card Payment Plan Option

Can someone explain to me how this works?
Say I make a purchase for £1,200 and have it switched over on to the payment plan.
What happens with the £400 balance which is already on my Post Office card?
When I make a payment above the monthly payment required for the payment plan, where does this go? Towards my CC balance or towards the payment plan balance?
Do I get two statements each month, one for my CC balance and one for the payment plan?
Also, can I have the payment plan payments taken out of a different bank account via a different direct debit?
Thanks for any advice. If anyone could explain how the payment plan option works in detail I would be really grateful.
