Light tunnels

Options
I want to get some light into a room with no external walls, i.e. no windows, currently used as an office.

Are light tunnels a good idea and how much can I expect to pay. (Slate roof, 1890's mid terrace)

Don't know about price, but I can say that as long as the area of roof they project out of (IYSWIM) gets the sun, then they are excellent.

I had two im a previous home and they were so good I kept going into the rooms to switch the light off thinking I had left it on, as there was so much light coming into the room!

I've seen these in magazines and they look brilliant... can I ask roughly how long they were and what diameter?

I got one fitted to a hallway as it had very poor light in it and also a couple of light tiles, IRRC what they were called and both are good.

In my case the tiles worked better, superb things in fact.

The light tunnel has to use the pipe at a slight angle and runs a couple of meters from memory through the loftspace so it's not as good as the tiles are. Still a huge improvement on nothing though.

I think it cost me about £300 or so for fitting plus the cost of the gear.

Ones I had were about 12" diameter and the 'tunnel' lengths were fairly short due to my particular roof design. The length however shouldn't matter, within reason, as the inside of the 'tunnel' has a mirror coating
