PCMCIA wireless card, XP doesn't recognise it

Windows XP rejects my new Linksys WPC54 wireless adapter when i put it in, all it does is give the two 'bongs'. Any ideas??
All the software/drivers loaded fine.

What does 'Device Manager' say? (Control Panel -> System -> Hardware -> Device Manager)0 -
Nothing appears in device manager.0
