I assume that you are comparing the E169 with the MF627. The E169 is capable of a faster connection speed of 7.2Mbps compared to 3.6Mbps for the MF627. This depends on the mobile network and coverage in that particular location.

  • I was really worried about this at one point: after I had bought a black one I saw somewhere that the white ones are better. And after buying another prepaid dongle recently, I realised that the price was very good because it was an old fashioned, non-USB model.

My experience is that black, white, old or new they all work much the same. I mainly use the internet for browsing and emails however.

If you're not getting a reasonable connection with your usb dongles, it's best just to connect them to the chosen machine with a reasonably long enough usb extension cable, then simply hang it out the window. That's what I did, I went from no connection to 3.4mb recently doing just that.

Who knows, it might work for you too. At least until they deploy something better, I believe that they've just worked out how to transmit hdmi broadcasts over wireless with zero lag, so lets hope that happens soon.

It could have been worse. At least source code's not combustible, or you can bet somebody at McAfee would have lit it.

Shouldn't really be an issue, all 'dongles' are infact self enclosed plastic tubes so it shouldn't matter that much, if you think it does simply cover it in cling film or cover the sim card slot with sellotape\electrical tape if you're concerned that the water may ingress.

It doesn't seem to make much of a difference. But last I remember the rain never impeded anything, I've got all the dongles from ALL the companies vodafone, 3, t-mobile etc as I like to be connected ;) and I have to say that rain has never had much of a problem, it hits it, it runs down the side it drips off.

If its any help, I have 3 sticks, vodafone, 3 and tmobile.

By far the best, is vodafone, it picks up 3g plus in most places, and i see more than 5mb broadband through it.

Latency is alot higher than a standard broadband connection, but it does what it says on the tin.,

I brought a 3 stick, the black one with Green Edging, to use abroad on pay as you go, as all the others are a rip off.

The 3 stick is dog slow compared to the vodafone one, tmobile one is just useless.
