Got the Bank I wanted but ..

Was advised to set up a basic Bank account with a Bank that is unrelated to my debts but at the interview, I was put off balance when asked if I had any CCJ's or Bankruptcy history; I stated no to both, done the check and created an account.
Now I'm worried that they'll close my account after I've gone thru the Bankruptcy procedure as I really want to be with this Bank.
What do you think ?

If it is the basic Co-op Cashminder or Barclays Cash Card then it should be OK.

BUT, if it is a normal current account, or with any other bank, then the likelihood is that it will be frozen and then closed by the bank once they learn of your bankruptcy.

The two specific accounts mentioned above are currently the only two that are normally 'safe'.

Oh dear, that's a blow but If that's the way it is so be it. Unfortunately, it goes from bad to worse as I went onto the cooperative bank web-site and the nearest branch is over 100 miles away !
Is it possible to create a Co-op Cashminder account over the telephone ? Has anybody here done this ?

Just phone them up and you can do it over the phone there and then. Any money or cheques you need to put into your account you just go to a post office. So no need to go near a branch.

Thanks for info tigerfeet2006, that's a relief. There are plenty of Post Offices in this area but no Branch.

Will they ask any questions about BR or CCJ's ?
  • You can also operate the account over the internet and using the visa debit card that comes with the account, withdraw from any ATM. If you're able to save anything or just want to budget, yiou might want to open a savings account with Yorkshire Building Society. You can open this online and it comes with a cash card, which allows you to withdraw from any LINK ATM.

Yes, there have been many done over the phone, but they may need follow up ID checks if your not on the electrol roll, or any other issue stopping them identifying you to THERE satisfaction(:rolleyes:) and you can deposit at any post office, which is why they dont have as many 'branches';)
Thats it, i am done, Blind-as-a-Bat has left the forum, for good this time, there is no way I can recover this account, as the password was random, and not recorded, and the email used no longer exits, nor can be recovered to recover the account, goodbye all …………. :(

It's an account that's intended for bankrupts and other 'undesireables' such as ex-prisoners, so although you should inform them of your bankruptcy, it won't affect your eligibility. However, if the Co-op was one of your creditors during bankruptcy, then it is likely that you will be rejected. Otherwise you should be fine.
