Appliances!

Options
Hi all,

Howdens kitchen arriving on Friday after a LOT of negotiation. I'm getting appliances elsewhere and was looking for some recommendations of brands/manufacturers to look for and to avoid! I need a freestanding fridge/freezer (50/50), a fully integrated 60cm dishwasher, fully integrated 60cm washing machine, built under double oven, 5 ring gas hob and a chimney hood.

Thanks,

Rob

It's all to do with your budget I guess. I am going for Bosch appliances in my Kitchen. (W/M, D/W, Dble Oven/ Hob, and Hotpoint F/F and Larder Fridge.

I am almost decided on Howdens for Kitchen. I assume your negs were on price. How much down from original quote if you don't mind me asking. I have been priced a Hexham at £5.5K for 21 units, but not been bac k to negotiate. (This price is using a tradesman account at 65% discount.)

I love the fact that Howdens give a "Tradesman" discount, when they don't sell to retail in the first place. It's basically a permanent sale.

I agree with sheslookinhot though, depends on your budget. There's a hell of a difference between (for example) Hotpoint / Whirlpool against Miele / Gaggenau

John Lewis sale starts Saturday (?)

I got my AEG fridge freezer this time last year half price as there was a scratch on the 'wall' side. Still with full guarantee...

p.s. I was there for opening time.....

If you want quality then I would look at Bosch, AEG for nice quality appliances at a fair price.

Also think about which appliances need to be good quality and which you can afford to compromise on. To me the important ones are fridges, freezers, dishwasher, washing machine whilst you can economise slightly on the oven, microwave, hob and extractor.

I found that looking on EBAY for graded products came up trumps. I got a MAYTAG fridge for £850 and a Fisher & Paykel hob for £275. Both were approximately half the price I could have got a non-graded one for.

Not everyone will agree with this but IKEA have quite a lot of appliances in their bargain area. Most seem to be damaged packaging. I picked up our integrated microwave and oven for 60% off. Their appliances are Whirlpool and come with a 10 year guarantee

Thanks all for your help and advice. I should have mentioned budget earlier. I'm going for cheap and more cheap (as long as it works). I am looking to pay as close to £1.5k as possible. I'm more than happy to buy graded and refurb product from ebay or wherever but I'd like to know which manufacturers to avoid (eg. Electrolux, CDA) and which are ok.

    Thanks

    Rob
