TalkTalk Essentials

With the TalkTalk "Essentials" broadband/phone package, what exactly does "unlimited" mean in the context of the evening & weekend national calls? I don't think they are free.

Sorting this out is important for whether or not I take up this service. I'd also like to know the correct answer, before I ring up their sales or customer service people.
The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life. :)

Its their poor way of saying they are Inclusive.

    Its explained better here: http://media.talktalk.co.uk/sites/TalkTalk/Global/PDF/TalkTalkPricePlan.pdf
see top of page 2 of 13.

Its misleading using the word unlimited because their is a Max call time of 60 mins per call to 01/02/03 numbers.

All is now clear. I think.

They are free, but only up to 60 minutes. Obviously, you hang up at 59 minutes and call again. If you don't and keep on talking, then you start being charged at 4.5p (inc. VAT) per minute.

Daytime national calls are charged at 4.5p (inc. VAT) per minute from when the call is answered.

I am presuming that "daytime" is still the old BT definition of "8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday".

They are not free they are inclusive.;)

If you wanted to make chargeable daytime calls surely you would use a cheaper supplier via a access number, then pay 4.5p a min and a 8p connection charge.

Your presumption about the daytime timeband is wrong. Its 6am to 6pm Mon To Friday.

That's the bit that people don't seem to understand. A 1 second call that isn't in the inclusive time period would cost 12.5p. Maybe you rang someone who wasn't in and it went to ansaphone and you hung up straight away as you didn't want to leave a message? That will be 12.5p, please. These can soon add up to a rather large monthly liability.

PS I also note that from 14/7/09 (random date or what?) they are upping their calling features prices from £1.50 to £2.50 each!

I see they charge for caller display which is virtually free with BT.
The £4 24/7 call bundle is a bit of a rip off bearing in mind that all your getting extra is daytime non local calls.

So, they cost 4.5p per minute from answer, then?

They are inclusive of what? VAT?

No the calls that are included in the bundle are inclusive.

They are not free because you pay for the bundle.;)

    Ah. I see the difference.

The bottom line is still that, if I were on TT "Essentials", I could ring my boyfriend in Aldershot, for 59 minutes on an evening or a weekend, and I would not be charged anything extra for the call itself.

Correct. In fact, it's even more exciting than that - you could call him for 59 mins and 59 secs.

Not if you make more than £4-worth of them a month. At least that bit of their pricing isn't "as clear as mud". But then, I worked for BT and the last thing we wanted was for customers to know how, and what they were being charged.
