I have an 80y/o uncle with his wife 70y/o. They just called me now that they ve received a quote in respect of new combi boiler because the old one packed up last week.

The gas Engineers gave them £4k quote for the boiler and installation. They own the house and have fully paid the mortgage but they are OAPs and have no other source of income apart from their pension.
My question is can the council help them out as they can't afford to pay for this? or If anyone has been in thesame position before how was it resolved.

They live in London.

Have they only got 1 quote?

If so, might be worth getting another 3 or 4...

    That sounds rather expensive...

If they get any benefits (including Council Tax benefit, or Pension Credits) they will probably be eligible for a warm front grant.

If they aren't getting any benefits, and aren't on good private pensions, then it would be worth double checking as they may well be entitled to claim something, which would then make them eligible for the grant.

    As INCTECH alluded to....

Give AGE CONCERN a call, they should be able to advise on this.

    contact warmfront.
they should be eligible for a free boiler. providing the boiler is old and useless.
i think they require certain benefits too. such as pension credits/council tax benefits.

the maximum grant is now 3500 quid.
