miserable and fed up :(

Hi I know this sounds really really mean but I'm working in a bank and I absolutley loathe it with a passion, I understand with the recession and the current market that things are not likely to improve (in time they may). I really want to get out and start working in a school but each time I apply for a job I dont hear anything, I work in an environment where women are so catty, b*****, backstabbing, 2faced etc and Im really not into that. I hate being there, I hate the hours, the journey even talking about it is starting to make me feel depressed. I've said to myself shall i walk out? but it's not likely that i'll get in a job within this situation. I really need some advice as I feel like there's nothing out there to help me.

I feel your pain. It can often be a case of familiarity breeding contempt. Sometimes we get too involved in the internal politic-ing ,the !!!!!ing and infighting and the only thing to remember is that someone is dumping a wad of cash in your bank account. Thats it,thats essentially the most important thing. You have to shut the stress out and learn to deal with it. You could well be just as stressed in another job. you think not but stress is an internal management mechanism and often not related to environment though of course, sometimes it can be.

Whatever makes you think that schools are necessarily different from this?

Get some voluntary experience of working with children in the evenings and keep applying!

What kind of work do you want to do in a school? Have you got any experience or qualifications for that kind of work?

I know what u mean about working in a bank.. I escaped NatWest 5 years ago after 17 years and although I am currently unemployed and job seeking, it was probably the best thing I have ever done!! Definately don't walk out... I waited until they offered voluntary redundancies and paid me to go :rotfl:

I imagine there are plenty of school teachers who'd love to get the heck out of it.

Do you chase up your failed applications?

    What are the hours, 9-5?

Your post is negative - do you have that attitude in apply for other jobs. Do you focus on why you want to leave the bank or why you want to work in a school...two very different approaches.

I thought bankers get massive pay outs when they resign, if your with RBS you could get a nice pay out...
