I found DHL to be cheapest. Booked them through www.payperparcel.co.uk and it was very easy and efficient( cost me less than than £8 to send large box weighing 15kg)

Parcel2go or DHL express are usually very competitive whilst still giving trackable proof of delivery (Important if an Ebay transaction)

Most carriers are Monday to Friday only. Some offer Saturday deliveries (for an extra charge) but I think it will be difficult to get Saturday pick ups.

You could take it down to the PO on Saturday morning and send it as an ordinary parcel (12.61 for 10kg and extra compensation can be bought if it is worth more than the included 39 pounds). There is a number - not proper tracking but should show delivery.
