I understand what your saying OP, and as far as I can see its legit. You share the car with your mother, but in the holidays you use it a lot more as your mum doesn't need it and you are home to use it more? Sounds very similar to what I do, although I'm at 6th form not uni.

Thanks rev_henry. At my age, the insurance prices are not quite as bad as mayb for you in 6th form.
If I was not at uni, I would have my own car and my own policy. Seeing as I only use the car when I am back at home in non-termtime or for the odd week, it seems a little pointless paying for my own car and policy.
Seeing as I was out with the car when it got bashed, I want to get it sorted for my mum so she does not have all the worry. Hopefully it will come out looking as good as it did before the incident. ;)

Don't you mean your mum's car? Anyone else smell a bit of fronting?

Even if there was, (which doesn't appear so), it would be irrelevant to these circumstances, where a third party has damaged the car, and the OP has asked for advice!

The post seems just to be an unnecessary attempt to cause trouble.

I have tried to keep things as simple and un-complicated as possible with this claim, I have just told the truth and kept things short and simple, so I would rather not call the insurers demanding a better car etc.....

I know exactly where you are coming from - don't want to cause a fuss, delighted they are repairing your car etc etc....

Unfortunately, one gets no reward from the third party insurer by being so accomodating.

Remember it is their insured's fault for putting you through all this hassle. Their insurer is well aware of this which is why they will be delighted you have let them sort it out at minimum cost to themselves, and let them repair it at a garage of their choice. Had you used a claim handler, this would have been sorted much quicker and probably at much more expense to the insurer, and your asking to be given a like for like car whilst yours is off the road is certainly not rocking the boat!

    Thanks for your helpful info.

The only thing that worries me about the whole claiming process is that so far the third parties' insurance company tells me they have not made contact back to the insurance company to give their side of the story, and because of this, his insurance company are going to pay out and get my damage fixed. The only thing I don't get with this is, I could be anyone making a false claim. Seems a little easy to do? Say he was away on holiday (which he is not), he would come back to a real shocker.

Today the repair garage said they still had no paperwork from the thirdpartie's insurer to say yes do the work on my car. So I called them, and they called the garage and told them to go ahead, and then called me. The garage now say it is all on their system. When I drop off my car tomorrow and pick up the courtesey, is there anything I should ask for? Some kind of receipt or proof the claim is being handled by aviva now?
