Friend has told me that end of this month or next microsoft will stop supporting windows XP. I take it that means no further updates etc?
I have SP2 on disc. I want to know how to save any updates that came after this. Or are all updates included in SP3?
The reason i ask this is what happens if your harddrive dies and you install a new one. I can upgrade to SP2 using the disc i have. What about after that?
Is there a way of downloading updates onto a disc or simply download sp3 onto a disc?

Indeed there is, it's called 'slipstreaming' and is explained here:

and here's nlite:

It's worth pointing out, it works very well too.It could have been worse. At least source code's not combustible, or you can bet somebody at McAfee would have lit it.0 -
as far as i know, MS have stopped providing support (over the phone) to users who didnt buy the extende support package.
however, security updates will still be pushed out for a while (how long exactly, i can't remember)0 -
l Quote We plan to provide support for Windows XP until 2014.

Okay, to the best of my knowledge, here's what's happening.-
Official support ended at the end of April 2009. What you've heard is that XP will no longer be sold after June 2009.

We're now in a period of extended support which ends in 2014. (5 years after official support ends)
-
Security updates will still be released up until that date, however no new product features will be released.
-
Even after this date, all existing updates will still be available on the Microsoft website, so if you have to re-install, they will still be available. (AFAIA that is!)

The updates will still be held on MS servers the same way that you can get stuff for Win98 on there don't panic the only thing will be that they will only issues updates if a major problem crops up effectively0
