Hi
I have been reallllly poorly since xmas and getting sorted seems to be taking an eternity ,latest tests seem to point to very severe reflux with damage to my throat +the possibility of some inflammation due to coeliacs or similar.
I have cut out all fat and tea, coffee ,alcohol ,garlic, onion, meat ,just about anything that resembles food....
Have been living on a small amount of mash ,veg and mince or small amount of chicken once a day and nothing else, fab diet ..lost 4 stone
For the first 3 months I wasnt hungry ,just ill and tired but that was because I was very anemic too ,now that seems under control ,I am sometimes really hungry but cant eat anything
Now the doc has thrown ceoliac into the mix ,makes it even worse ,have you seen the price of gluten free products ?? are they taking the peee??
I have another appointment at the hospital next week and they are now taking about an op to repair my oesophagus but I really need to eat between now and then.
Has anyone else had any similar probs and recommend any 'safe foods ' that dont break the bank ? thanks

Have you spoken to your doctor about this? Maybe they could help, maybe give you a list of 'safe' foods?0

O dear, poor you. If you are diagnosed ceoliac you should be able to get gluten free bread on prescription. Meanwhile try Doves Farm Gluten and wheat free flour. It makes a lovely sponge cake and scones which are acceptable and I believe cookies too. They also do a bread flour but I have never tried this
Corn Thins by Real Foods (available at Sainsbury's or Tesco) are good for a nibble and Rice cakes would be suitable for you too.
I have also made little cakes with ground almonds but this is not a cheap option, very yummy though.

Thanks ,just sent hubby to tesco for the Doves farm cereal ,will get the flour tomorrow ,then hopefully make some bread:j
The doc took blood tests and found the anemia and malnutrition but still didnt seem to know what to advise ,he just kept pushing for more tests
Im not convinced that it is gluten but things have improved since stopping eating pasta ( i lived on it for the first couple of months as it was bland and thought it would ease the tummy probs ,seems it was making it worse )0 -
Can you have other vegetables, lettuce, courgette mushrooms...... Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
Yup ,seem to fine with all veg except lettuce ,cucumber or toms ,can only eat small amounts though
Ounce for ounce which veggies give the best nutrition ? would cooking and pureeing concentrate them more or would they lose some goodness?0 -
Im wondering whether something light like a watercress soup might be nice, jsut the thing in this weather, adn you only need a small amount to be filling and its pretty low carb, which might help.
Mushrooms are also very nutricious so if you could manage some lightly sauteed
they are also fairly high protein.
Can you manage any beans, pulses...? Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.

Fab ,thanks I will have a go at that soup ,maybe a lil bit blander than its supposed to be but hopefully still nutritious :j
Cant do beans and pulses unfortunately as they are too difficult to digest:(0 -
a referal to a dietician may be helpful - they can give advice and also if you are getting malnourished then they may advise some food suppliments to build you up again!£27.76/£2018 in 20180

Just wondered if you liked and fancied a ripe avacado, as far as I know they are nutritous and higher in calories than most veg. Hope you get some answers and help soon. Best wishes to you.0 -
A dietician would have been useful ,a referral was supposed to go through weeks ago...
Now I have more energy I am definitely going to take the bull by the horns and try and get myself as healthy as possible ,especially if i need an op next week
Have already been scouting for recipes on here:j
Will def give avocado a go ,dont think I have ever tried it ,does it taste fruity or more veg like ?:o
Thanks everyone ,you're more helpful that a heap of doctors have been:T0
