And it's done weekly now, instead of 'if you claim for a full tax year'. Well, it's done on a weekly entitlement for carer's allowance anyway

No, it's changed, you don't get it if the child is 12 or over.
I think your info maybe incorrect.

    Home Responsibilities Protection

    Can I get it?

    Do you get:
    • Child Benefit in your name for a child under the age of 16, and you have told us your National Insurance number? Find out more about Child Benefit on the HM Revenue & Customs website
    • Income Support and it has been agreed that you are substantially engaged in caring for a sick or disabled person. Find out more about Income Support on the Jobcentre Plus website

how bizarre. I went checking into this earlier this year and we were really pleased that we'd got the carer's allowance claim in before the end of march because the information back then said it had changed - I got in touch with TPAS and everything about maximising his HRP because he's lost out on a year because of his ex-partner claiming child benefit after social services had removed my stepdaughter from her and she was living with us.
