Council Tax

Hello,

Does anyone know anything about Council Tax?

I informed my local council tax office that my circumstances had changed and that my hours/salary is now 18 hours per week being paid £637.13 per month gross. I live with my father who is a pensioner. I am liable for 50% of the council tax. Does anyone know anything about Second Adult Rebate Rate and if so, do you know if I am entitled to claim this. I have checked the council tax website but don't understand what they are saying.

Anyone who can help, I would really appreciate it

Thanks
Laura

You would not be entitled to any discount on your Council Tax, you may be entitled to Council Tax Benefit towards the council tax due.

Before any further answer can be given we need to know who is the owner/tenant of the property ?
I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.

I don't have much knowledge of benefits but get the impression that many people do not receive benefits to which they are entitled, merely because they don't know about them.

So perhaps there are online benefit calculators you can use or you can pop to local advice agencies to have both you and your father's current income analysed and identify other entitlements that you're not currently aware of.
