Your supplier is going to want to see proof of a couple of things.
With a debt of approx £900 they will not allow the account name the be changed without proof that your wife who was the account holder has moved out.
But not only that they are highly to simply chase your wife for the bill without proof that you WERE NOT living at the property as well at the time.
If this was a normal change of tennancy they would want to see either a tennancy agreement or proof of purchase.
Is it honestly HER debt or did you live there at the time as well? As I said the company are not going to chase her exclusively if the proof of ownership shows that you were also living there during the time, as a resident you were also liable for the cost to some degree as you will have used the energy as well.
Before I can give more advise I kinda need to ask, were you living there as well during the period the bill were run uP?0
