TGS Parking Services

Hello. I have read the threads on the forum, but I am just looking for confirmation/support really.

I went to a concert last night in Manchester, paid a guy in a yellow coat £10 to park in an empty shop car park(stupid I know). When I came back I had a TGS Parking services notice on my car - as did about 15 other cars. There were TGS signs up on the car park. Do I just ignore it - it looks official but I'm not convinced. I don't want to incur a £135 charge by not responding within 14 days. I can't stand the thought that I might get a ccj or something for non payment.

Ignore it. Private scam the same as the guy in the yellow jacket (but he made £10 out of you).

You can only get a CCJ IF they take you to Court, AND you lose, AND you don't pay the judgement within 28 days.

All of that is about as likely as the yellow-jacketed guy being Elvis. Ignore all their empty threat rubbish letters and never, ever, contact them.

Broadley. I had a similar situation at the Apollo Manchester. They were using various retail outlets and a cash and carry premises as an overflow car park. Whether they had sought their permission I know not. They took the money from the public but didn't issue a receipt. I telephoned the Inland Revenue/Customs & Excise the following day to alert them to this dubious practice.

As for TGS. I had my motorbike clamped by these people this morning. I was away for 10 minutes and the area I parked on was just a bit of dirt - no room for a car. They charged me £90.00.

I note with interest they asked for cash and the bill had no v.a.t. number. Maybe they are not VAT registered. I shall find out.

If ever you get your motorbike clamped again, the advice is usually to get a friend and between you, lift your bike - including the clamp - out of the private land area. Put it on a public road if possible, or at least somewhere it can't be clamped again. A bike is a much easier scenario than if a car is clamped.

Then you can get a mechanic to remove the wheel to get the clamp off and there's nowt they can do about it as long as you don't damage the clamp, and return it to the scammers. Or get a locksmith to pick the lock, or pick it yourself with a bump key or an adapted drinks can homemade padlock key (I saw it on youtube!).

If you want to see your money again you'd have to take them and the landowner/occupier who contracted the clampers, to the Small Claims Court. Lots of people are following this process on pepipoo forums and many have succeeded, even got refunds out of Court by putting pressure on the landowner about serving Court papers.

It's whoever instructed the clampers who would be the most likely to pay up (clampers don't, even when they get a CCJ). Don't waste your time ONLY naming the clamper in your action.

In your shoes, I would post about your case on pepipoo.com here and show all paperwork/receipts, and a photo of the car park and any signs:

Make sure you start your own new thread on pepipoo, not hijack an old one as you have here. A new thread is less confusing and people can address your case rather than get sidetracked by having to read the earlier postings. Did you realise the post you've added to is over a year old?!

Read the pepipoo forum rules and FAQs first before registering, including 'how to post pictures' (important to use tinypic).

I'm going to have to buy a calendar. I thought it was June this morning.

I shall put something up on Pepi.

Couldn't do with my bike what you suggested. They use a chain going through the wheel to a post. Now had I an angle grinder with me.

    Some good tips. Cheers.
