Bought the daughter a Fujitsu Siemens for Christmas which has been O.K. until a couple of weeks ago. Every time she fires it up, a little screen appears saying trying to instal ccCommon, after a while it says that it has been unsuccessful giving the option to browse or cancel. If cancel is selected, another little screen appears and it takes several cancels and the odd Alt and F4 to get rid of the damned thing. I did a search on ccCommon and am a little wary of what I found if I interpreted it correctly. I gather that it is something to do with Norton (which came with the laptop on a 3 month free trial basis). I have suggested that she trashes Norton and goes for A.V.G.
Could anyone please advise on what this ccCommon thing is and what the best course of action is ? Other posts which I have read suggest it may be something a trifle more sinister. Anticipatory thanks from a technothicko.

Yes, ccCommon is to do with Norton. I would also suggest uninstalling Norton and using AVG instead. Try removing all Norton stuff from Control Panel - Add or Remove Programs.
If, after rebooting, the ccCommon message still appears, you can get rid of it by downloading and running the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility from http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;290301. When you run this utility, it shows a list of programs that have been installed using the Windows Installer. Select ccCommon (if listed) and click Remove (or Fix maybe).
