Previous private landlord issues

Hi,
please stick with me as this is my firset post.
My girlfriend and I recently moved into a new rented home (private landord) and we are experiencing issues with our previous landlord.
We gave the correct amount of notice to the previous landlord (the day we gave coincided with the end date of the lease) and signed the agreement/contract in the premises to agree that everything was in order, we recieved our deposit back a few weeks later.
The issue is we paid rent up to 25th of May but moved out at the end of the lease 16th May. My question is our we intitled to claim the nine days rent back?

When did the tenancy agreement actually expire? was rent due at the start of each tenancy month?0

The tenancy agreement ran out on the 16th of May (the day we moved out) rent was orginaly paid on the 16th but we changed it last December to be paid from the 25th, which is our payday (we paid the additional 9 days with the rent payment on the 25th December)

Have you written to him, recorded delivery, requesting the overpayment to be returned?
Remind him that you added the extra nine days to your December rent, & perhaps include a schedule of your payments.
Yes - if you added the extra days to your rent, you should be entitled to this overpayment back. Why was this not brought up when or before you moved out, or have you only just noticed?0 -
You are entitled to the nine days then. Write to him and set it out clearly and nicely as sooz suggests. The second letter is the one to have "if I do not hear from you in 14 days I will be taking legal advice / pursing this matter through the small claims court." It's £150 or similiar, so I wouldn't speak to a solicitor, the local court can help with a small claim... I have to say I wouldn't be bothered with the hassle for that amount.0

thanks for both replies, We have tried to phone and text the landlord but to no avial. I am writing the letter today and putting a copy of the bank statement highting the extra payment made.
