strange smell coming from new washing machine

I had a brand new washing machine installed the other day, and every time I've used it, when it gets hot, a very strong smell comes from it. Hard to describe - sort of a bit rubbery, bit like a new car.
Anyone got any ideas what this might be and will it wear off in time?
The machine is silver - could it be the paint giving off an odour?
Could it be the rubber gasket inside just smelling strong because it's new?
I havven't rung the store (Comet) because I had such a bad experience with the whole installation business with them...basically cowboys who wrongly installed it and left me with a leaky machine and no hot water in my sink, so I had to get a plumber in anyway....yes, they agreed to refund the connection and delivery charge, but it was still a lot of hassle, so before I go higher up the chain I wanted to get some opinions on the board first.
Anyone else experienced this with new machines, and did it wear off?
thanks in advance

dont think their is a problem here its just cause it is new ive just had my kitchen renewed and my appliances still have a new strange smell to them when used
ithink the more you use it the less it will smell
hope this helped0 -
Have you read the instruction made sure any travel bolts have been removed ?
Mind you tho,if they hadnt it would be so much a smell as a god awful racket0 -
Sounds very much like the rubber gasket, as you suspected. Rubber ( and a lot of plastics ) do give off a smell when they're new, even more so when they get warm / hot. I don't think this is anything to worry about, it should fade away over the course of a few washes.0
