Built in Sat Nav - cost of upgrading disc

I bought a Honda CRV with built in Sat Nav in May 05.

Several times, when plotting a journey by post-code - it hasn't been able to find it, but I've normally been able to identify that's something on a new industrial estate, or similar. It's also oblivious of a local by-pass, opened 2 years ago, and shows me apparently driving across fields when I use it. But I know it's there - so fair enough.

Fully realise that such changes take a while to get mapped. But was a bit surprised to take the integrated software / map disc out - and find it marked '2004'. As there is no documentation whatsoever with the manuals (or on the Honda site, as far as I could unearth) - on upgrading the disc (only that it will degrade with map changes), I phoned the local garage who supplied the vehicle. And was not pleasantly surprised, to be quoted over £200 for a '2006' variant - due out in Mar 06.

Before I start a meaningful dialogue with the garage / Honda on the exorbitant cost of updating the disc. And suggesting they provide at least one free upgrade in the light the original disc was out of date -

- anyone else bumped into a similar rip-off cost, please? If it was just a map disc - I could burn a CD on my PC - but it's integrated with the software - heavily copyrighted - so little alternative but an upgrade via Honda?

Unfortunately almost all of the manufacturers will charge you this sort of figure for a new disc.

Just think £200 worth of disc is the price of a TomTom 1!...I know what I'd do! ;)
New car (not even 2months old) up for sale:-

    Ford Focus Sport 1.8TDCi 5dr '06' plate
    Sea Grey
    2600miles
    P.M for more details
  • I'd have a chat with them and point out that the disc was out of when fitted, ask for at least the 2005 disc.
Unless it is damaged or discontinued - ignore any discount of over 25%

Always worth checking on ebay for things like this. The one for my car costs £350 from the dealer, and is typically £100 on ebay. Saying this, £100 is still too much for me - I can live with the irritation of the car thinking I'm going off-roading when using the M6 Toll...
I really must stop loafing and get back to work...
