All I can hear is you moaning about it? :-X Deep down you are trying to justify why you bought the alternative when others haven't :-*The main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing:)0 -
Kinster, I didn't hear JPS moaning, JPS only made a counter-argument to this statement (below)
Because it is made by Apple? Because it works well? Because it looks good? Because it sounds good? Because it easily intergrates with the computer?

.....and this statement was made in response to somebody asking why everybody wants I-pods.
To my mind JPS has a valid point and its one I've heard many times in many reviews so I think its a bit harsh to flame him for it.
I'll just make it clear that I currently don't own an MP3 player but I have been keeping my eye on the market for a while and it stands to reason that the I-Pod will be overpriced purely from a demand point of view so I would say JPS would be right to suggest that there are better value options out there!!!!0 -

Which 'computer?' The only reason why you'd choose an iPod for functional / integration reasons over another MP3 player is simply because you've got an Apple Mac. If you have a PC, then this comment is seriously ... er... inaccurate.
Its a shame you dont check your facts before posting such strong views eh? iTunes (the software that works with the ipod) has been available for Windows 2000 and XP for a long time, and works very very well.
No matter how good any of the other players are, and I'm sure feature-wise some are "on paper" better than the ipod, Apple did a really good job with the "whole experience". The software talks to the ipod, and it just does what it is supposed to do.. if thats what you like then I say go for an ipod.0 -

Now I think the mini iPod is fantastic and could even replace the larger iPod -it's so small and seems to have the same features as the bigger one, but it only has 4GB and a huge price tag. I am sure Apple will be dominant in the MP3 player market for a long time to come, but I think checking out the competition is a wise idea.

P.S I hope that's not too controversial for you kinster ::)The main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing:)0 -
The Ipod is not overpriced for what you get, I have worked with Sony and Creative and Philips players - All are hard to navigate - phillips being the worst and software is really not what is should be.
Sony - Attrac format is just not on.
Itunes works flawlessly.
I owned Generations 2 3 4 of the Ipod (currently on 4) and they are really much better and with Itunes far superior
As for hardware side of things, the battery life has been nudged to 12 hours which I find is not bad really and the best of all is Apple's customter Service.
My 3rd Gen ipod was giving me issues with a poor performing battery life, apple replaced the battery free of charge. Sent my ipod off on Monday back on Firday
Then my warranty expired and my ipod wouldnt synch with the pc with slow transfers - apple extended my warranty for 30 days and replaced my 3rd Gen with a BRAND NEW one. No questions asked and threw in another 1 year warranty with the new ipod.
Now Im on my 4th Gen and I would recommend the whole Ipod experience to anybody.
Ever heard the saying - Buying cheap is buying expensive?
Penny wise pound foolish? Me thinks.0 -

overpriced?
They are priced at a value that people are willing to pay.
It's getting into a Windows vs. Linux or PC vs. Mac debate...
