I would strongly advise the OP not to lie or to try to answer questions they don't understand.
They need to make sure they understand the meaning of the questions OR use a broker, otherwise there is the potential to get themselves into an even bigger mess.0 -
I binned my renewal quote from Direct Line a couple of months back after taking out insurance with Admiral instead, oblivious to the fact that I would need to send in the proof of no claims.
I phoned Direct Line and asked for a duplicate renewal notice and they posted that out to me.
I phoned Admiral in the meantime to ask about something else, mentioned that I was waiting on the duplicate renewal notice from Direct Line, and the Admiral lady said no problem, asked me for my Direct Line policy number, then put me on hold while she called Direct Line. 5 mins later she comes back and tells me that she's spoken to them and confirmed the no claims.
So - ask your old insurer to post you the proof again, or phone Hastings and see if they can phone your old insurer to ask. As others have said, the policy should be reinstated if they are supplied with the no claims proof.0 -

Have you read all the posts?OP changed address between insurances.0 -
You should be given a pro-rata refund as Hastings are enforcing cancellaton. The short-period rates don't apply. They won't reinstate the policy - it's been cancelled too long.0

I\'ve a nagging concern about the OP trying to get insurance elsewhere when it comes to the question of whether they have been refused insurance/had insurance cancelled? I could be wrong though.
I think you're thinking of when an insurer declares a policy "void since inception" (there's a Latin term insurers use for this which I can't remember off-hand, I'll be in trouble with my mum since she's an underwriter). If they did, that's when you have major trouble getting insurance in the future. However, this is only done when someone is found to have given false information when taking out insurance (e.g. saying you've had no claims when you have).
If insurers do this they issue a full refund, and in effect your policy never existed; i.e. you've been uninsured all along. Since Hastings are giving a pro-rata refund, it's just a standard cancellation, and therefore shouldn't cause a problems Especially if OP gives proof of no claims to the next insurer and explains that the Hastings policy was only cancelled because proof wasn't received in time.
And sorry OP, I didn't see the part about the change of address.0 -
Ab Initio is the latin term.0

Latin/English...it doesn\'t matter. How does the OP answer the question: Have you been refused insurance? I have been asked this question in online questionaires (sp.?).0 -

Phone the insurer while filling in the form, explain what happened previously, and answer based on what they say. Get a note of the name of who you spoke to and note the date/time in case of future queries - their calls should be recorded.
I wasn't sure how to answer a question on Admiral's form (about where my car was left overnight - the private car park of my flats could have fitted a couple of their answers) so phoned them to clarify. It's always safer than guessing.0 -
If bonus was not supplied then the time on risk charge will be based on the annual premium WITHOUT the no claims discount. This will be why so much of your original payment has been eaten up.All matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves.0
