ASDA Game return - annoyed

Hello all,

Need an opinion on this one. I bought a game from ASDA for the PS2 last week as a Christmas prezzie for someone. I then found out (as typically happens) someone else had got the game for them.

So, I took the game back to ASDA and told them the deal. The game was sold to me unwrapped, and when she checked the game itself the CD had scratches on it (can only assume it was like that when I bought the game!). So she said they won't take it back as a) they never refund/exchange on games and b) it looked used.

Ok, so maybe I should have checked it before I bought it but I would have assumed, being a new game, it will be ok. I had asked at the checkout if I could exchange it if it was a prezzie and they said yes (when I bought it).

Its not BADLY scratched, just a little and should still play ok.

Now, should I take it back again and try a different person at the customer service at a different time, wait till after Christmas when they generally don't care, or write to head office and complain?

Has anyone had any experience of games exchange at ASDA?

All help appreciated,

Babbler.

I think you're on a loser here: I've come up against the same policy.

I was in Asda trying to get money back on a CD single bought in the same circumstances. Fortunately mine was less than £2, but as I waited, the lady in front was swapping a video for a DVD. The assistant was saying they don't normally do refunds or exchanges on games, videos, DVDs or CDS, even if they are shrink wrapped (and the video was) and clearly in pristine condition. They will do refunds on faulty goods but that's it, and apparently there are signs up in that section of the store.

So when I got there I said "I don't know if you're going to do this" and she said she couldn't. I realised then that the CD was not shrink wrapped at all, so clearly I could have played it and recorded it already, but she said some came sealed and some didn't, but they wouldn't even refund on a sealed item.

I asked what they would do if I said it was faulty (not that I was intending to do so, but just for interest), and she said they would then exchange for the same item.

You could try saying it's faulty and getting an exchange, and then see if whoever's given the 'other' game bought it from one of the specialist game shops. If they did and they have a receipt it may be easier to try for a refund there. If they won't refund they will almost certainly exchange if it's still shrink wrapped.

Failing that, then try a part-exchange in one of the game shops: if there's an older game of interest then I reckon buying 'pre-owned' is a good way to go!

And in future I just won't buy that kind of stuff from Asda. Their loss.

    Babbler,

We don't have Asda here, so I have no experience of them.

If I were you I would try to turn the scratched game back on Asda........point out the scratches and complain that it's faulty/sub-standard.

If they offer a refund or gift vouchers......take them and run.

If they offer to replace it, insist on a sealed copy and take it as 'an unwanted gift' to your local GAME store who, despite their inflated prices, have an excellent exchange policy.

If you says it;s faulty then they are unlikely to test it. Unless you get a real jobsworth.....

if you haven't played the game that means they gave you a scratched one in the first place - how did that happen? the staff have either played it themselves or have taken it back as a return from another customer. it could well be faulty so demand a refund, or get an exchange in a sealed wrapper (but do asda do any sealed PS2 games?). please don't buy anything like this from asda again, they hardly ever sell sealed stuff so it's impossible to get an exchange. like they say you could just be buying things, copying them then taking them back but if they sold them sealed in the first place they'd be able to tell if you had played it ... grrrr! hardly anyone has a PS2 hard drive anyhow, i don't think there's a big copying scam going on and if there was people would be shopping at game rather than asda. my mum had the same problem with buying a PS2 game for my son that he already had, they only let her exachange it because she works there :-(

We got a game with a Game cube package and took it back to ASDA yesterday. The game was sealed but they hadn't got it on their shelves and the one we wanted to exchange it for wasn't there either. But we had no probleam at all. The lady at the desk just put credit on a gift card for me, no questions asked and no problem at all.

I'd try again and hope that you get someone different!! ;)
