Silly mistake!

Hi!

I think I may have made a silly mistake when applying for a new credit card that led to me being turned down.

I few years ago I got divorced (2002). I moved in with my brother but as I didn't want my ex to know exactly where I was living I gave my mothers as my correspondance address to the bank, existing credit cards etc. The divorce was done and dusted and I have now moved away (2 years ago).

Reading up on the advice here I applied for a credit card with zero percent interest on balance transfers but my application was turned down with no explanation except that I should check with the credit reference agency. I didn't. I applied again recently and got turned down again - and realized that I have been giving my correspondance address as my previous address not the address where I was living and on the electoral role! I have now sent off for my credit info.

So what do I do now? Try and get a note added to the credit record explaining my error (and hopfully why I have been turned down) or re-apply with the correct information? Or something else?

Any comments or suggestions gratefully received!

This happened to me once. When I applied to another company with the correct information I was accepted as I was getting knocked back because I was not on the electoral role (As you are in the case by the sound of it). Providing you have a reasonable credit record prior to these refusals I would have thought you stand a reasonable chance as you have been falling at the first hurdle. If it was me I would also apply for credit record and get a note on there before applying, but that's me in my old age. On the occasion I refer to I just applied to another company

Thanks for that. What I'll do is wait for & check my credit record then try again with another company.
