My car stereo, radio, won't receive signal!

Other than my veccie I have an old MGB as well which I get on the orad when it stops raining. My problem is I put in a Sony MD/radio last year which worked perfectly. When I got into the care this year the MD works but the radio won't transmit, it just transmits static despite already being tuned in. I have tried resetting it and also manual tuning but no joy. I have also taken the aerial lead out and given that a good clean in case of condensation from sitting.
Just wondered if there were any experts out there who might be able to give me some advice.

well mg and rovers sometimes do have funny wiring in the loom cables
and also people like to chop them and make a mess of them so take the stereo out and check that all the wores are colour matched in the iso male to female connection
if two are crossed over it may be the cause
i remember a fella coming into where i work with a similar problem to you and it was solved by swapping what i remember as a yellow and orange cable because somebody had chopped it previouslyBack by no demand whatsoever.0 -

Thanks for the advice i will try that, but if it worked OK last year and not been touched could this still have happened?0 -

Not if manual tuning is ineffective. The wire that sometimes gets connected incorrectly is a permanent live, which is used to power the station memories when the ignition is off. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

No can't do manual tuning either, just gives static as if the radio station isn't there. The presets are still in memory but no music.0 -
Have you pulled the radio out and made sure the aerial is still plugged in properly?0

Could be the arial - especially if you can receive all the local radio stations but not the national ones. That's what happened to me earlier this year and I had to have a new 'bit' which the car arial screws into. 10 minute job - £20.. and done.0

Hi, yeah done all that. So running out of ideas, now wondering if the radio 'side' has gone wrong. Cant get any stations at all, just get static either via the already tuned in ones from last year, when it worked ok, and nor from the manual tuning. Thanks for all the advice though.0

`take it to a shop and get them to hook it up to a speaker via the iso and test the radio
or use some removal prongs to take your stereo out and put a friends in to test it.Back by no demand whatsoever.0
