Vauxhall Engine Electronics indicator - 3rd party diagnostics?

My Engine Electronics light has started staying on on my Astra 1999. I have not noticed any faults in the car though. However, I begrudge paying Vauxhall £50 -£70 just for the diagnostics. Does anyone know a third party garage that will do this diags?

I live in Nth Manchester but work in the Sth, so anywhere in Mcr will do for me. Thanks in advance.

  • Give some more details on the car engine size etc, a lot of these Vauxhalls you can get the codes yourself by using a paperclip.

Thanks, I did find the info on how to do this, but not confident as I am not into cars at all.

For others who may benefit from this "paper clip" method, the url is here:

Hi the exactly the same thing happened to my astra last year to my astra 1999 a month before my mot, The garage told me it would not pass the mot with the light on.
Although there seemed nothing wrong with my car i had no choice but to have it replaced luckily the garage got hold of a second hand part. But still had to drive my car to a vauxhall garage to input the code the end story nearly 300.00.
    Thanks Jen1

You can read the codes for free on the early Bosch units, I'm not sure about the newer ones.

try a local car electrician, they are usually quite good and the ones on the Wirral dont charge if they cant find anything wrong (although I know you're not going that far to get it fixed, I'm sure ours are not unique !) , if they do locate the problem they can usually fix it at a fraction of the price, the ones who do tow bars and car alarms etc.. are the best to try.
