Housing Benefit and Equity in property.

My wife and I have separated but she and the kids are still living with me in the matrimonial home.
She has managed to get Income Support and is in the process of finding somewhere else to live.
She seems to think that she will get Housing Benefit but surely the council would count her equity in the house as part of savings/investment. This amounts to £55,000.
Has anyone else had experience of this?

There are ways and means of getting housing benefit if you have left the matrimonial home. It can usually be disregarded for a period of time. Are there court proceedings ongoing?0

We have only been separated 4 months so there is no court proceedings ongoing. I am trying to get Separation Agreement drawn up but she is holding out for more money.0
