Road tax and holiday..what should I do?
Options
Sorry if this sounds stupid question but I am really worried about it. My car's road tax expires on 31/7/09. I am away on holiday for the last three weeks of july and I will be back 2 days after the tax expiry. From previous experience, I can not pay the tax on line until after the 15th of the month (I am away then). Also from previous experience the reminder might not come until a week before the expiry so I would not get it as I am abroad (i need the reference number to able to pay on line). Now my car will be parked at heathrow for all that time and when i pick it up to drive home I will be driving for 100 miles on the motorway with tax disc which has expired 2 days earlier..can any one suggesst a solution for this please?

Don't worry about it, until you get home you'll be fine.
The ANPR/DVLA system doesn't update instantly and the vehicle will be shown as licence due to expire for a few weeks after it expires. Do it once you are back and you'll be fine

I'm sure the renewal letter comes out the well before the expiry date. You might be able to renew before you go.
...but I agree with the poster above two days late should be fine.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4.............................NCFC member No: 00005.........

Looking on the direct.gov website, under the heading motoring, click on car tax, here you will the heading 'taxing your vehicle while your abroad'
This could be your answer.
I also read that you can now apply foe a new tax on the 5th of the month.
Hope this helps.0 -
