I called up to see about closing my account as I have a nil balance on there and I was offered a 6 months 0% deal at 3% fee.
Now I do have an existing 0% deal ending in July and was looking to keep it at 0%, but I was hoping for more than 6 months.
Mint wouldn't budge on 6 months or 3% and said it was fixed at that. I was wondering, do Mint have a closure team? What happens when you ask to close the account, does it get passed to another team, or does the first advisor deal with the closure and close it down?
I'm just thinking if I ask to close, will they give me a better deal or will they just close it?!?
Thanks for any suggestions.

I called to close a Mint and Natwest card that I'd been stoozing on (separate phone calls). Got a repeat on the Natwest, 9 months 0% interest with 0% fee
. No such luck on the Mint card, think their closures people came up with the same offer you've had as their "best deal". I did manage to transfer the full credit limit from my Mint card to my Natwest card as part of the closure process - took a bit of debating with the closure people, but got a result at the end of it.
I doubt you'll get much better from them, but worth a try - tell them "a friend" got the 9 months 0% with 0% fee on their Natwest card that they also underwrite and see what happens."A child of five could understand this. Fetch me a child of five." - Groucho Marx0 -
Do you have to ask to be put through to someone? As the advisor I spoke to seemed like just a normal Customer Advisor0

You ask to speak to someone about closing your card - don't let the front line CS person close it, they don't have access to the best deals."A child of five could understand this. Fetch me a child of five." - Groucho Marx0

Sometimes you can't win even with the closures/loyalty team.
You skirt around the issue saying "I'm thinking of closing my account...unless you have any special offers?" and you're too vague. They know you don't mean it so fob you off with "new offers come out all the time...there will probably be one on your account next month, so are you happy to keep the card open?"
Conversely, go in very 'matter of fact' and bluntly say "I'd like to close my account please"...and you could be met with "OK that's your account closed. Is there anything else I can help you with?"...as happened with me recently! :eek:0 -
I was offered 6 months at 0% with 3% BT fee when I phoned Mint recently, intending to cancel. When I persisted, the cancellation team waived the 3% fee.
Obviously, for this to work, you have to be prepared to go ahead and close the account, if you don't get the offer you'd hoped for
