  • Are I V A classed the same as bankruptcy?
  • Because it can be a pain sorting it out at the last minute we always do a bankruptcy search at an early stage against clients getting a mortgage. This costs an extra £2 per name. Then if entries do come up we have time to sort them out. This often means e-mailing several county courts to ask if someone recorded as having been made bankrupt by their court has the same birthday as our client and waiting for them to reply.

We usually find that the insolvency register doesn't show the ones we want to find out about!

As a retired conveyancing solicitor I believe the information given in the post to be useful assuming any properties concerned are in England/Wales but I accept no liability for it.
  • Hello just looking for some advice.
When solicitors perform a bankruptcy searc as part of purchasing a property, how far back do they look or how far back is it still visible for them to see. In regards to what they search is it just the insolvency register, the same one anyone can search online?

    Thank you

    Hi Indigo12 - welcome as a newbie poster:smiley:

If you go onto the main House Buying Renting and Selling board page then look up at top left you will see a blue "new thread" button.

If you hit that and repost your query, it makes life easier for respond posters. More than one OP in a thread can become confusing (esp when the thread dates back to 2009!).
