Reclaim bank charges with Natwest

Hi, I've searched through the forum but couldn't really find what i'm after.
I had a student account with Natwest with a £2000 overdraft. I had loads of charges and eventually Natwest closed my account in 2006/2007. I have received letters from debt compaines wanting payment of the account etc. I don't have any information about the account, i.e account number etc.
Can i claim the charges back, if so how do i go about it?
I am unemployed at the moment and my parter and myself are struggling to make payment on bills, so would i qualify for finincial hardship?
Sorry if this seems silly, i just don't understand the whole situation, lol.
Thanks

The first thing is to ask for statements on the account that was closed. I suspect that you will legitimately owe the bank more than the charges themselves since the account was interest free £2000.00 for a time. Unless the charges caused the hardship then you might find it difficult to claim them under financial hardship. However, here is the guide for you to start the processHi, I've searched through the forum but couldn't really find what i'm after.
