Graduation Ball Misery - What Are My Rights?

I agree with Woody01, I think you had a lucky escape.
Personally, In think it's strength in numbers; you needs others to complain (I'm guessing there were hundreds in the basement room? You shouldn't have any bother trackign them down). When they see they could be looking a a massive payout, I think a deal will be struck. Also, they need to learn for next year don't they?0 -
I agree with the comment that if you can get others to complain about being downstairs, then you have more of a chance of getting some of the ticket price back.
In my view it is bad planning to sell 900 tickets when you know a third of those won't be sitting in the main arena......far better to have sold 600 tickets.
One argument I think I would use is how did the organisers believe you could have listened to the star attraction if you were downstairs?? I'm presuming that the audience would have been expected to be sitting during her bit.......and regardless of whether it happened to the events organiser or not you didn't enjoy it so that comment flies out of the wind in my view!2014 Target;

Hello everyone, thanks for taking the time to read this and hope I can get some help here.
I attended my university graduation ball last week, paying £56 for the privilege which included a meal, bottle of house wine and a performance by Ruth Lorenzo
Unfortuanately Ruth cancelled, beyond the control of the event organisers.
When I arrived, along with my friends we were told we were not seated in the main room but in the 'basement bar'. A basement bar without a bar and without the live music that was being performed upstairs. This was because the main room holds 600 and the union sold 900 tickets. We weren't told this could happen at all when we purchased the tickets. We couldnt' find anyone to complain to on the night, only bar staff who obviously were just hosting the event.
I feel I got a bit of a raw deal, bumped into a dingy basement with no live music while we ate and no bar, we had to keep going upstairs. None of this was explained to us as a possibility at time of booking.
I emailed the events officer at the Union who sent a rather curt reply saying it was simply a case of there is no luncheon venue in the area that can sit 900 people in one room, fair enough, but not explained, The events officer went on to say it wasn't their fault and that she had faced the same situation not long ago but still had a great time.
Do I have any grounds for complaint here?
Thanks for reading
Ches
In addition,in response to her reply that there wasn't a luncheon venue that could accommodate 900,I would tell her that isn't your problem, and could she tell you how exactly that wasn't their fault,ie whos fault did she think it was?
I think i would also do my own homework and prove there was a venue that could hold 900 people.0 -
I'd be angry too. Like others have said, i'd write a letter and try and get others to do the same.
Also why did they sell 900 tickets if they couldn't fit 900 people in? Sounds like it was badly organised.:heart: Think happy & you'll be happy :heart:
I :heart2: my doggies
