Whats the best strategy into getting more money off a brand new car as well as using the scrappage scheme ontop?

Depends on what car you are after, but remember that the Govt are only giving £1K of the scrappage scheme - the manufacturer is stumping up the rest, so in real terms you are already getting an extra £1K discount.
What in particular are you after?0 -

Hyundai i20 (rrp £5995 with scrappage) - I was on the phone to a dealer and they claimed that they are adding a further £250 on top because if you order now, you wont receive it until september, and by that time has surpassed, the model will switch over to 2010 forcing you to add the extra cash.0 -
Have a look at the TopGear / WhatCar mags. One of them has got a Target Price quoted in the back indicating what price you should be able to get without scrappage discount.
If the saving is less than £1000 then you are getting a good deal, if the saving is over £1000 but the dealer is giving you only £1000 (+ govenerment's £1000) then you should be able to get more off.
Always worth asking for a tank of fuel to round the deal off :-)0 -
I was lucky enough to have two cars to get rid off, one freelander that was registered on 03/09/1999 (doh!) and one n reg fourtrak. I scrapped the fourtrak and used the freelander for part exchange. The only annoying thing is that the dihatsu was in my brothers name so my sparkly new hilux is in his name just now. Also in a momentof pure jammyness, the guy forgot to charge me for the side runners and towbar and the cd player is out of a higher model!!0
