We've got in a muddle over this one, bought a new/used car and decided they wern't offering enough in part x so paid for it out right. Plan was to then sell ours to a garage or privatly etc.
Gone to swap cars over on insurance policy as new one will be main car and need to get it home tomorrow cost an extra £30.
Thought they would be able to offer us some form of temp cover (co-op) while we sell the old car but they don't do it apparantly.
Looking around at temp ins it's £19.00 a day or £60 for 2 weeks etc i think this is steep considering all i want to do is sell it the furtherst it's going would be a local garage.
Is there another way of doing it? are people allowed to test drive it without me having insurance.
I've got fully comp which i thought meant you could drive other cars but looking into it i don't think thats the case. any help appreciated.

Your right there no third party cover for a car you own. If it's off the road and not worth very much then no insurance is needed.

If you are to sell the car and the person wants a test drive they may be covered on their insurance, however you won't be insured to drive it. It will be down to you to check they have insurance for a test drive.

The cheapest way I would suspect is to leave a policy running on your old car and cancel when sold.

Thanks problem is i already transfered the policy over to the new car and to take out another annual on the old one would be 250 and no quarentee on how much i'll get back when i cancel it as they all vary if i'm correct in saying that.
I think i may just take out a one dayer and see how many garages i can get to view it and offer a price on the same day. Failing that i may just take it to auction again on a one dayer. Right pain in the bum i thought my ins co would be a little more helpfull.

Do you think i'm still possibly covered to drive it as i don't own the car my hubby does. So would my fully comp on the new car cover me to drive the old one as it's technically not mine?

As I understand it, if fully comp you should be able to drive another vehicle but you would only be covered third party which should be ok in your situation.

Who's name is on the V5?

If it's not yours you should be ok.

hubby's name is on the v5 and i'll be the policy holder on the new car, which says that i can drive another car with permission from the owner as long as its not leased to me. Does that make sense?

I'm still a little worried about driving a car around that hasn't got any insurance on for itself it will just be me personally. is that legal?

I always thought the police checked the cars details to see if 'it' was insured? rather than the person?
thanks for all your help this is such a headache

Please read the part of the Policy that explains the "Driving Other Cars Cover" as it often excludes driving cars that are owned and / or registered to your spouse or partner. Some will also insist the other car must be insured.

As you are much more likely to be pulled over by the police as the car itself will not show as being insured on their number plate reading cameras it is important that you get this correct. I would also recommend that you always carry the relevant Certificate of Insurance as otherwise if you get pulled by a police officer that does not believe you have cover there is a chance your car could be impounded which can be expensive

All you need to do is ensure you can drive other vehicles and the new car's insurance is on the database. So long as you remember the vrm you'll be fine if stopped.

thanks very much i have only read the certificate small print which states i can drive other cars, no mention of that car needing insuring or excluding spouses etc i will dig out the full terms and double check this. Do you think it would be worth me ringing them up to check or would they likley fob me off even if it was legal to do?

I was told with fully comp insurance you could drive other cars and be covered 3rd party BUT only if that car is insured.....
 Am thinking of a new one:beer:
