I was travelling back from holiday yesterday so missed the news. I'll catch up at 6 o'clock when the news is traditionally shown on TV.

Yeh lets see how many of these overseas players "love" the Premier League when they no longer earn 3 times more than playing in any other national league."For those who understand, no explanation is necessary. Those who don't understand, dont matter."0 -

I hope nobody takes over the Premiership rip-off football package. It is time to cull footballers' wages. An 80% tax rate would do for starters for income over £500K per year.

Most of them are for'ners, and they keep most of their income offshore. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

I cancelled Sky sports in 2000 and bought a season ticket for my local team instead. It was a great decision and I get to go to the pub for the games that interest me (not many).

Hi,
The football match package was purchased yesterday by ESPN
http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=656557&sec=england&cc=5739
This may have Sky quaking in their boots, and so they should be...ESPN is joint-owned by:
Disney - arguably the largest Media organisation in the World, and
Hearst Corp - A massive US-based media organisation which owns many well-known magazine titles, newspapers and TV stations around the US and Canada.
ESPN are already an established big player in sports broadcasting around the World, especially in the Americas and the Far East where they already broadcast Premier League games. This is exactly what they have been waiting for....to broadcast a major sports channel in the UK with something big to show on it.
If the next couple of seasons are successful for ESPN, Sky will have a real chance of losing most of their matches. This will, however, push up subscription fees even more, due to the need to place higher bids.
Here is their new UK site. Early days though!

last time i went to a football match was hillsborourgh and that day i realized that money was far more important than a fans life..never been back to a game since..It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.0 -
About time the rediculous cash involved in the prole sport stop flowing...
Alas, I dare say, Council dish TV will come and take up the void that they leave and increase costs to boot...0 -
I agree. I much prefered the days of one match on a Sunday for TV. And that's it apart from Cup Finals or Major Events. Sat 3pm is Football time...if you want to watch it, then get off your @r$e and go to your local team's ground.
Or better still, get a ball and some people together and play a game rather than watching other people do it!
Setanta have got intesting origins I believe. They started off by claiming to be the British - Irish Football Supporters Association I and bought the UK rights to Irish World Cup games and charged to show the matches in the back room of a pub in Fulham (the one opposite the Broadway station I think).
They made a loss on their first venture so it looks like they're just continuing in the same way!0 -
