I hope nobody takes over the Premiership rip-off football package. It is time to cull footballers' wages. An 80% tax rate would do for starters for income over £500K per year.

I agree. I much prefered the days of one match on a Sunday for TV. And that's it apart from Cup Finals or Major Events. Sat 3pm is Football time...if you want to watch it, then get off your @r$e and go to your local team's ground.

LONDON--BT Group PLC (BT.LN) and Virgin Media Inc. (VMED) are in talks with Walt Disney Company's (DIS) sports network ESPN about broadcasting the U.K. Premier League soccer games. ESPN won Monday after the prior rights holder Setanta Sports Holdings Ltd. defaulted on its payments.

Setanta's packages were put up for tender Friday after the troubled sports broadcaster failed to meet its financial obligations to the Premier League, and ESPN won the two packages for the 2009/2010 season and the single package for the three seasons Setanta held for the period 2010-2013.

BT customers who subscribe to one of its BT Vision IPTV packages receive Setanta free, and a spokesman said around 120,000 or around 10% of Setanta customers received the service through BT Vision.

Virgin Media customers on its most inclusive XL subscription service also get Setanta free. The company doesn't split out customer numbers by package type.
