Will my claim against Abbey affect my credit rating score?

Abbey have written acknowledging my first letter and want proof of hardship.
They mentioned something in there about - if my case is referred to another department then it could affect my credit rating (sorry dont have letter on me so cant remember exact wording!)
Is this true?
Will my credit score be affected?
Also - want to claim hardship but wonder how to prove it - Husband's account and he is self employed and owed money by customers who cant pay up but still has to pay his suppliers. We had to set up payment plans with them all totalling £700 per week for 2 months in order to avoid legal action and now have had our overdraft with lloyds cancelled so have to pay that back as well as owing the Inland Revenue money too.
Does this constitute hardship (we finding it bloody hard!!!) or do we actually have to be taken to court first to show hardship?
I am paying the mortgage and bills but my wages are still not enough to cover it

Do you have priority debt arrears(mortgage/rent, council tax, utilities)?0 -
Hi. Its in my Husbands name only - the Abbey account... and we have no mortgage arrears but we do have a payment plan set up to pay off some electricity arrears (from 2007 when they were doing estimated readings only then submitted a massive bill for £1000 which we couldnt pay so paying off at £38 per month.0

The bank at the moment will not deal with it as a hardship claim as there are not priority debt arrears and the ones you have, have a payment plan to clear the arrears already set up.Hi.
