Abbey bank charges

Hi guys,
I'm being hammered for bank charges by Abbey following my redundancy earlier this year. I did manage to get another job but my salary barely covers my commitments. Consequently, they have applied bank charges last month which has meant that there is not enough money to honour this months direct debits which will then incur more charges next month etc., etc. I have spoken to someone in India this afternoon who has reversed 1 charge of £35 but this has made no difference to me. I have tried to explain that these charges are causing financial hardship but they just gave me a number of the Collections Team.
What do you think is the possibility of getting all the charges refunded? I've currently got a claim for unfair bank charges which has been on hold since last year pending the result of the test case etc. but I need to get the current situation resolved.
Please help
