Can we claim for this on Home Contents Insurance?

Hi,
We have had our digital camera (Canon g&) for about 2 years. In Feb it stopped working and showed an error code (E24). We tried to get it fixed by taking it to a local camera repair shop. They quoted us £200 to fix it, and as they now only retail at £270, compared to the £450 we paid for it, we decided it wasn't worth getting it done. We were told the error code indicates that the camera was either dropped or knocked somehow.
We have had our home insurance for 18 months, and never claimed (first home). Can we claim for the camera under Accidental Damage?
Our excess is only £50 so if we could, it would be a big help. However, would our premiums go up significantly with us being relatively new customers?
Any advice appreciated!
p.s. Husband says its not worth claiming and just wants to buy a new camera but I think we pay our premiums for a reason!

you would have to explain to insurance company - when and how the item was damaged... you don't seem to know - as only aware by the error code that it was knocked, I can't see you being able to claim ( in a correct manner)Any posts on here are for information and discussion purposes only and shouldn't be seen as (financial) advice.0
