Bank will not refund Sainsburys overcharge - help!

We spent £9.48 at our local sainsburys on May 30th (shows as June 1st on bank statement). A few transactions down there is another charge of £9.48 to sainsburys! We only shopped there once, so they have obviously processed our transaction twice.
We contacted Abbey who sent us out a form to sign to confirm we did not authorise the transaction. We have since received a letter from Abbey saying they cannot refund the amount as their records show that the payment was made using our card and pin number - well obviously it was, but only once!
Should we contact Sainsburys directly, or should the bank be dealing with this??

At one of my local Sainsburys stores, when you use a normal till (i.e. not self service), the amount leaves my available balance twice. One of them is immediate and then the other is the next day. The money leaves the account normally and it takes about 7 days for the available balance to return to normal.
Not sure if something like this may hae happened with you.0 -
Pursue it with Abbey. they appear to be indicating that both transactions had c+p used - or maybe they only checked one and it just so happened they checked the 'wrong' one.
Glider - that sounds very odd?0 -
You might have more luck taking it up with Sainsbury's.0

Happened to me at Next and to my mum at Tescos - don't go to the bank go to the retailer it is their mistake and they should fix it.0
