I ordered a new car at the weekend and paid £500 deposit but have now changed my mind.....do you think I've got any chance of getting the money back??

  • It never hurts to ask.

However i don't think you will and for what its worth nor should you.

If you look at your T+C's which should of been supplied with a order form of some description. It will probably say something along the lines of: In the event of the purchaser cancelling we retain the right to recover any cost incurred out of the deposit.
  • I know times are tough but I would expect a franchised dealer to refund the deposit without too much of a fight.

If they can justify that they are 'out of pocket' (rather than losing a profit opportunity) you may need to compromise and expect to contribute to their 'loss'.

Be firm but pleasant and you should get your money back.
  • i wouldnt be too pis sed off if they kept it, thats the whole point of the deposit to stop people changing their minds!
  • If its a brand new order car then not a hope.
